1. Open a new file with 1500x1500pixels. I prefer to work in a bigger workspace. So, go to File>New.

2. Go to Edit>Preferences and set the Grid every 1.5 inches with 3 subdivisions.

3. Reveal the grid lines. Go to View>Show>Grid and the workspace will be looking like this: And just press CTRL+H in your keyboard if you want to hide this grid and CTRL+H also to reveal again.

4. Click the Create New Layer button at the bottom of the Layer palette, rename it as "box1" then click the Rounded Rectangle tool . Set the color fill to black.

5. With the Rounded Rectangle tool selected, drag at the lower 9-grid box at the lower part of the workspace. Then rasterize the layer.

6. This time change the color fill to white or press X in your keyboard if you are in the default foreground-background. With still the Rounded Rectangle tool selected, drag again a small box inside the first grid. Rasterize also the layer.

7. Duplicate this box. Select the Move tool   then while holding the ALT key, drag 8 times placing in each grid just like below:

8. Each white box has its own layer, so merge them to one layer. Click the Shape1 layer then press hold the Shift key in your keyboard then click at the Shape 1 copy 8 at the uppermost. This will select all the nine white boxes. Now right click anywhere in the layer choose Merge Layers.

9. They are now in one layer and rename it as "white box". Apply a little Bevel and Emboss.

10. Then group the two layers, select the white box layer and the box1 layer then click the small arrow down and choose New Group from Layers. This will will be the Group1.

11. Duplicate this Group1 layer for another two: Group2 and Group3. Drag the two duplicates.

12. So i will start to transform these three group layers one by one. I used the Edit>Transform>Distort to position these layers. Here they are:

13. I add shadow at the bottom of these layers. Fill with black, opacity 80% and used the Distort and Warp Transform to position the shadow. But after i have transform these layers, it looks i still need a bit more transformation. So with the Move tool , pointing the mouse to the right center point, i pushed a little to the left.

14. By hiding the grid lines, here it is now my photo cube. I prefer to use a white fill so that it can blend with any photo i will going to put in it.

Here's how you put photos in your photo cube:

Drag the photo in your photo cube file. Duplicate your photos twice making them three, hiding the two for a while by clicking the visibility eye. Open the Group Layer and place the photo layer above the white box and the box1. Make sure that the photo is also transformed according to the angle it is being places. While the photo layer selected, right click anywhere in the layer and choose Create Clipping Mask. This will clipped in the white box layer. Do the same thing with the rest two photos. Reveal them, transform and clipped according their layers.

...and this now my own rubiks photo cube. This is just a fancy rubiks cube but still it is another photo effect with my own version.
